The month of February is full of history, romance, and fun activities in Winchester. Check out these 5 things to do!
1. Magic Lantern Theater Movie Showing – February 3rd at 4:30PM
Head down to the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley (MSV) for a showing of “The King”. A film about a cross country road trip in a Rolls Royce previously owned by “the King”: Elvis Presley. The film is rated R and runs for 108 minutes. Doors open 30 minutes beforehand and there will be snacks available for purchase. Tickets are $8 for the general public and $5 for MSV members.
2. Chocolate Escape – February 9th 2:00PM-5:00PM
Join chocolate lovers on the Old Town Winchester Walking Mall for the 6th Annual Chocolate Escape! Work your way down the mall listening to live music and tasting samples of chocolatey treats at participating locations. There will be downtown restaurants offering a variety of $3 chocolate dessert samples and downtown businesses offering not only promotions, but chocolate treats as well. Follow the red balloons to participating locations!
3. Bright Box Comedy: Philly Plowden – February 15th at 8:00PM or February 16th at 7:00PM or 9:30PM
If you’re in need of a laugh after Valentines Day, the Philly Plowden comedy show at Bright Box Theater might be right up your alley. Plowden travels throughout the United States and parts of the world performing his stand-up show with great reviews. You might recognize him from season three of NBC’s America’s Got Talent!
4. Virginia Regiment Captain Mercer’s Company Encampment – February 18th from 11:00AM to 3:00PM
If you are a history buff, this event might be of interest to you. Muster and Drill of the Virginia Regiment of Captain George Mercer’s Company at the site of Fort Loudoun, 419 North Loudoun Street. The Company will meet and drill and march to George Washington’s office at Cork and Braddock Streets and fire 3 Volleys in honor of Col. George Washington.
5. George Washington Birthday Cocktail Party – February 22nd 5:30PM-8:30PM
Celebrate George Washington’s 287th birthday at the George Washington Hotel in Downtown Winchester. This event is hosted by the French and Indian War Foundation. Delegate Chris Collins will be a guest speaker. This is a free event and all are welcome. There will be a cash bar and appetizers by Chef Marvin for $20 a plate.
